How to Setup and Download Microsoft Office on your Computer?


  • Go to Office Setup website www.office.com/setup.
  • Sign In to your Microsoft Account Or Create a new Account.
  • Enter your Product key, Select your Country and Language, hit Next.
  • Once Logged Into your Account, Select your Subscription.
  • Click Install Button in the subscription area to Download Office.
  • Run Office Setup and You’re All Set to Go.

What is Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Office is a suite of desktop productivity applications that is designed specifically to be used for office or business use. It is a proprietary product of Microsoft Corporation and was first released in 1990.

Microsoft Office is available in 35 different languages and is supported by Windows, Mac and most Linux variants. It mainly consists of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Outlook and Publisher applications.

Downloading Microsoft Office


  1. Go to the Office Setup website www.office.com/setup.
    • Open any browser, visit www.office.com/setup or office.com/setup. This website is specifically designed to guide you through the Office installation process.
  2. Sign In to Microsoft Office Account.
    • Once you have visited the website office.com/setup, you now need to sign in to your Microsoft Office Account, or you can get create a new account if you do not have one.
  3. Enter Product Key.
    • Now that you have logged in to Microsoft Account, You will need to type in your 25 Digit Alphanumeric product key that comes with your Microsoft Office Product. Select your Country and Language from Drop Down menus too.
  4. Download the Installation File.
    • Once you have entered your product key and other information, Your product key will be verified and you will be guided to the next page. Here you will see your product and subscriptions. You can click on the Install button right next to your subscription information. Your Product Setup will start Downloading.
  5. Run the Installation File.
    • Your File is downloaded, now you need to click on that File and run it. You can manually run it from your downloads folder. You will get a prompt from your Operating system, click Agree, and next, Your installation will Start.
  6. Run Office Apps.
    • Wait for the installation process to complete, once it is complete, you will get “You’re All Set” on the installation window. Now click finish and open any Office App. You will get a walk through the window, and you will get a message that your Office is installed and Activated.

Activating Office Setup

  1. Open any of the Office application and you will see an Office Activation Wizard
  2. Enter the Office Setup product key
  3. Follow the further instructions to activate the Office product

Uninstalling Microsoft Office Setup

Uninstallation of Office setup depends completely on the type of installation. In case, someone else has installed the Office setup, then you have to follow these steps to know the type of installation. There are two types of installation that are used by the users:

  • MSI: Microsoft Windows Installer is an old method of installing Office setup through a local installation resource
  • Click-to-Run: It is the latest method of installing and updating Office over the internet. By default the latest version of Office along with most of the one-time purchase of Office products installed by this method only.

To find out the installation type, do the following:

  • Open the Office application
  • Open File – Account or Office Account
  • If there is “Update Options” available, it means you have installed the setup using Click-to-Run installation
  • If the option is not available, then go for MSI type installation

In case of click-to-run, before you remove or uninstall the Office setup, log in your Windows account with your administrator account. Then follow these steps:

  1. Remove the Windows Installer packages
  2. Remove the Office scheduled tasks
  3. Use Task Manager to end Click-to-Run tasks
  4. Delete the Office services
  5. Now, remove the Office files
  6. Remove Office Registry subkeys
  7. Now, remove Start menu shortcuts
  8. Uninstall the Office Click-To-Run Licensing Component, Extensibility Component and Localization Component

In case of MSI type installation, unhide all the hidden folders and files before moving towards the uninstallation of Office setup. Then follow these steps:

  1. Remove any remaining Windows Installer packages of Office
  2. Halt the Office Source Engine Service
  3. Delete Office installation folders and files
  4. Now, remove the registry subkeys for the Office system

Reinstalling Microsoft Office Setup

There may be times when you have to move your Office setup to another PC. In this case, simply uninstall the Office setup following the aforementioned uninstallation steps and then follow these steps to reinstall on the new device:

  1. Start your new device
  2. Visit www.office.com/setup to login your Office account
  3. Download your already purchased subscription that you were using on the old PC
  4. Now, install the setup and enter the old product key
  5. It will be install on your new device
